My SSB Journey: Kolkata Experience and Insights
Introduction
As millions of young individuals dream of serving their country in the Indian Navy, each SSB (Selective Service Board) experience is a unique journey filled with challenges and lessons. This article reflects my personal journey through the SSB Kolkata process, sharing both the struggles and the triumphs.
The Call Letter Arrival
The journey began on February 2, 2024, when I received a notification on my Gmail account about joining the Indian Navy. Despite previous disappointments and long hard work, I was determined to overcome my weaknesses and prepare meticulously for the test.
Preparation and Practice
With the help of close friends like Ashish, Omkar, and Muskan, I practiced rigorously. I focused particularly on the General Psychological Test (GPT) and General Practical Examination (GPE), writing multiple solutions and mastering the art of story writing.
Travel and Logistics
The day of the National Selection Board (NSB) in Kolkata approached, and the travel to Sealdah train station was a long and tedious journey. After reaching the station late, I managed to secure a place in the waiting lounge, where I bonded with fellow aspirants and waited patiently.
Process and Procedure at NSB
Once inside, the process was methodical. After chest number allocation, we were called to perform various tests and tasks. The day was filled with anticipation and preparation, from TAT (Thematic Apperception Test) to psychometric assessments, each step revealing the true essence of SSB.
Group Testing and GTO
The Group Testing Officer (GTO) phase was a blend of group debates, problem-solving tasks, and individual testing. Some memorable moments included a GD on unexpected topics like excessive tobacco use in India, and individual obstacles where I managed to clear two without any issues.
Interviewing Officer and Final Insights
The interviewing process was both challenging and revealing. Questions about past experiences and what you would change if given the chance showcased the depth of the interview preparation. Despite not being recommended this time, the experience was invaluable.
Reflection and Lessons Learned
Throughout the process, I learned the importance of consistent practice, preparation, and maintaining mental composure. While not being recommended this time, the experience remains a part of my growth, and I remain hopeful for future attempts.
Conclusion
True to the quote, 'some goals are worthy even itrsquo;s glorious to fail,' every attempt is a step towards achieving the ultimate goal. I am grateful for the support of my friends and family and look forward to writing my success story, one day at a time.
Final Words
Signing off, with the hope that one day, my journey will lead to a successful outcome, and I can share my success story.
