The Most Enjoyable Motorcycling Experience: A Journey Through Personal Prowess and Preference

Discovering My First True Motorcycle - The 1998 Yamaha Virago 1100 Special

My journey in motorcycles began with a little Honda Rebel 250 learner bike, which, albeit simple, was my first step into the wonderful world of two-wheeled adventure. However, my heart truly lies with my first 'real' motorcycle: the 1998 Yamaha Virago 1100 Special. This bike not only marked a significant milestone in my riding journey but has stayed with me over the years, keeping my passion for motorcycling alive.

To date, over 26 years post-purchase, I still own and ride the Virago 1100 Special. The experience of owning and riding this bike has been nothing short of enchanting. Throughout the years, numerous motorcycles have come and gone, each with its unique quirks and features. However, none of them have captured the essence of what it means to me as deeply or vividly as the Virago. It's a testament to the enduring quality and comfort of this remarkable machine.

Sculpting My Motorcycling Preferences: A Battle of Styles

Selart, asking me to choose a 'ideal' motorcycle based on my experiences is a formidable task. However, after much deliberation, I find myself torn between the Buell Ulysses and the KTM 990R Adventure. Both bikes boast their own unique strengths.

The Buell Ulysses excels in comfort and handling on paved roads, providing a smooth and stable ride ideal for long journeys. It's like a classic cruiser, offering a smooth and immersive experience. On the other hand, the KTM 990R Adventure is the quintessential off-road machine, designed to tear through dirt and gravel with ease. It is the perfect companion for adventures beyond paved roads, offering unmatched off-road performance and adventure.

Ultimately, it's a toss-up, and it comes down to the context in which I'm riding. If I were to wear a suit and head to work, the Buell Ulysses would be my go-to. However, if I were embarking on an off-road expedition, the KTM 990R Adventure would be my invaluable companion.

The Final Touchs: A Personal Legacy

My collection of motorcycles includes a 1983 920 Virago. Though I no longer ride, it remains a cherished possession that evokes memories of my bygone days of riding. Even without the thrill of the open road, I still maintain a deep love and nostalgia for this classic piece of machinery.

Another irreplaceable part of my collection is my meticulously built 1961 Triumph Bonneville. This bike embodies the art of engineering and the feeling of riding. There truly is no motorcycle that comes close to the unmatched sound and riding experience that the Triumph Bonneville offers.

I also had the fortune of riding the Kawasaki ZZ-R1100, a motorcycle that, in its prime, was a true joy. Sadly, like many motorcycles, it was unreliable, in both fit and finish. There were better times and worse times, but nothing beats the nostalgia of riding a classic Kawasaki. That experience made me realize that it's not just about the bike but the memories it creates.

Championing My All-Time Favorite

Around 54 years of riding and countless motorcycles, the 2004 BMW R1100S has claimed the title of my all-time favorite. More than just a motorcycle, it's a symbol of a particular era in life, marked by milestones and such.

Throughout my years of riding, I've experienced numerous bikes, each with their unique charm. Bikes I've owned, like the Norton Commando Roadster and the Laverda 1200, were incredible when they worked well. They provided an exhilarating ride and unmatched performance.

Conversely, some bikes, notably the Czech bikes, have only brought heartache and frustration. Their reliability issues and poor handling made them challenging to enjoy. Yet, amidst it all, the Kawasaki fours remained my all-time favorites. The late ‘70s Z-650, which served in courier work, was a fantastic ride that looked great, and even with a few modifications, it became a superbly handling machine. The 1998 Kawasaki ZX-9R, on the other hand, stood out due to its street sleeper look and the ability to produce power in ways never experienced before.

Indeed, the Kawasaki ZX-9R holds a special place in my heart, representing the pinnacle of my motorcycling journey. It's a testament to the love and respect I have for motorcycles and the joy they bring to my life.

Conclusion

Motorcycling is not just about the machines but the experiences and memories they create. Each bike has its own flavor, each ride brings its own adventures, and each moment on the road contributes to the rich tapestry of my motorcycling life.
